Dakus have an ICBM now

June 15th, 2008 Admin Daku

Chinese have an ICBM named Dong Feng, which means “East Wind”. Well, Dakus don’t have that but they have the next best thing, Pawan which means Wind” in Hindi. That’s Dakus Dong Feng for you. That’s what blew away United XI off their feet and their senses. Look at this. 45 off 39 balls with 5 fours and 1 six in Tennis ball cricket is stuff of the legend. I wish I was there to witness this tornedo, right here in sunny California. No diplomacy could have saved United XI from this weapon of mass destruction. This is one of those times, where you marveled at the violence and murder unleashed. Well Done Dakus and well done Pawan. Keep blowing them away.

Super King from Chennai wins it again (for Dakus)

June 8th, 2008 Rajeev Bishnoi

After a long time I was in a Dakus’ match again, but this time as a spectator. By the time I reached the ground, Titan’s innings was over and Dakus were chasing a stiff 90 for victory. Amit who hit 3 fours was out just before I reached the ground. I was like: oh man, I missed a lot of fun. As it turned out I really didn’t. The best innings was just waiting for me to cheer up. It came from Raghu who on his day can destroy any attack in the league. I have myself enjoyed bowling to Raghu in our practice matches and I have to admit, and with due respect to Amit, Pawan and Mayank, it’s Raghu who I have always found to be most challenging. All 4 pack a lot of punch in their shots but I think Raghu’s height is his advantage. Where others find some balls short and fall victim to a lofted catches, Raghu can easily reach the ball while standing at the crease and still can clear the boundary easily. That’s one of the reason I always found it difficult to bowl to Raghu. He can hit good balls out of the ground. When he is in “mood”, the margin of error for bowler is very little. With so much skills, he’s undeservingly little short in batting stats and I believe the only reason is in his mind. I think his role model should be Rohit Sharma. Take it easy in the beginning and slowly start building tempo when you start connecting the balls better. In a way he’s very similarly skilled as RS. He has classical defense coupled with precise big shots. Let’s hope to see many such innings from him in the coming matches. Let’s keep the momentum going, Dakus !!

That’s how I broke my knee

May 30th, 2008 Rajeev Bishnoi

Some of you already know that I’m going through a long and treacherous rehab program after a second knee surgery. I had injured my knee way back in 1996 in Big Basin on Santa Cruz mountains. It was pretty good impact and required replacing a completely torn ACL (one of the main ligaments in the knee), repairing cartilages and few other knee ligaments. Last year the injury reoccurred requiring another surgery. You know what I was trying to do this time. Well, as you can understand being an outlaw/pirate I can’t disclose it completely but I tell you this. One of our informers had given us a solid lead that there was a big treasure hidden deep in the Amazon basin. The only thing separating me from the treasure was a big hole. That’s it. But there was a catch. As a matter of fact lots of big, scary and deadly catches. Yes, the hole was full of poisonous snakes. Since I’m writing this post, you can guess that I survived the long jump but I still couldn’t get the treasure. Why? Because I broke my knee again. Unfortunately I can’t locate the video of my jump, I’ll let you see a similar jump by someone called Koby Bryant (he’s some kind of player and played some stupid game).

This is what I think is working

January 20th, 2008 Rajeev Bishnoi

We had another good day out on the field. It was a fantastic batting, bowling and fielding (what else) performance by Dakus. Inserted first, Dakus didn’t have a good start, 4 down for under 20 but that meant we were going to see one of the best batting displays ever by Dakus. Prateek and Raghu both played superb innings, most of the time you couldn’t differentiate who of the two was batting. Sensible batting with each ball being treated based upon its merit has a nice monotonicity about it. It’s a great equalizer. Differences between players blur gradually when they bat in this fashion. Styles become less apparent. It also helped that both Raghu and Prateek are almost same height. They never allowed the panic to set in.

Gentlemen, you have been witnessing a very refreshing change  in Dakus attitude over the past few months. They’ve started to enjoy “the moments” in the game. While batting, the emphasis has been on treating the ball on its merit. While bowling, it’s been one ball at a time. And People have been attentive during fielding and looks like they’re enjoying it too. Our bowling had always been one of the most fearsome and suddenly the batting looks right on the way to catch up.

Hanging of a Daku

November 28th, 2007 Rajeev Bishnoi
Hanging_Daku I’m sure you were thinking something like this. You pervert !!Suri Daku is showing his rope skills climbing up a deep cavern near Canada Alaska border, when chased by RCMP. He managed a narrow escape that day and went on to establish a very successful Robbing career. Instead of Daku’s usual fate of a Bullet, he retired to some place in California and is enjoying life with a new house and kid. When contacted last, he refused to go back to Dakus’ way of life full time. Once in a while for a change, may be. Full time, No No. Good Luck to Suri Daku. Unlike movies and urban legends, as you can see ‘Once a Daku is always a Daku’ is not true with us. You can really get out. No need for witness protection plan. So join us and enjoy Dakus way of life !!!

Another percentage win

November 17th, 2007 Rajeev Bishnoi

Dakus won another match playing uncomplicated cricket, defeating Falcons. Mayank was planning to bat first and even after loosing the toss, we were inserted so his wish was fulfilled. I opened the innings with Maulik and we were doing good when Maulik misjudged a ball and got caught. Ball was coming nice to me and we kept playing percentage cricket, basically playing the ball on its merit, rotating the strike and charge when safe. We were heading towards 90+ score (may be touch 100) but few critical wickets fell at wrong time (Raghu even had unfortunate decision against him) so we ended up with 81. Anything above 80 is usually defendable if you bowl reasonably. And we mostly bowled very tight line and fielded superbly although a catch or two could have been taken but they were little on the difficult side, so not much lost. Finally we got them all out for 60 and won the match by 21 runs.

I’m heading off to India after 5 years with a nice feeling to have two successive wins under the belt. Good luck to you all. Just keep playing simple cricket and keep winning.

And most importantly please DO NOT miss any matches. I took Thursday and Friday off to get some rest from my Flu and I’m still on medicine (probably couple more days). We’ve a very good team provided we’re full strength. So please arrange your schedules accordingly.

Good luck for the coming matches… Keep looting points Dakus…

Chao,
- Rajeev

Pyrating for a change

November 2nd, 2007 Rajeev Bishnoi
Pyrating for a change Normally our operations have been ground based but this was one rare instance where Jack Sparrow, a distant cousin of mine requested me to join in one of his operations in Atlantic Ocean to capture The Black Pearl ship. It was fun encounter with British Navy and helped me a learn a lot about Marine warfare.

Dakus defeat XI Invincibles

October 27th, 2007 Rajeev Bishnoi

Dakus won the match against XI Invincibles convincingly. Dakus were on top in batting, bowling and fielding. During Dakus batting, Amit provided the acceleration after a solid start and Prateek put the icing on the cake by scoring 17 off 23 balls. Strike rates of all the Dakus were less than their usual strike rates and for that the credit goes to few XII bowlers. Other than couple of expensive overs with multiple wides they were hitting the right spots most of the times but Dakus still managed to reach 83 which is usually a winning score. While bowling Dakus started putting pressure by striking early and not letting XII score fast and middle overs saw exceptional bowling by Amit who got 5 wickets and got well deserved MoM for all round performance while the batting, bowling and fielding. Dakus didn’t let XII go over 50 and that should help Dakus NRR. Overall a satisfying win !!!

Score at Dodge City Bank, Kansas

Rajeev Daku 10 years ago after successful robbery at Dodge City Bank, Kansas

Welcome to Dakus Cricket Club! We’re a cricket team based in San Farncisco bay area and play tennis ball cricket. Daku in Hindi means Dacoit or Robber or Bandit or Outlaw. We try to enjoy cricket on weekends. If you’re located nearby and enjoy playing cricket, get in touch with us.

Here is a nostalgic moment for Daku Rajeev when he and his then buddies found few minutes to get a picture taken right across the street from Dodge City Bank in Dodge City, Kansas. This was a good score and allowed us the seed money to start this website. It was a satisfying job because we did it right under the nose of American Hero, Great Marshal Wyatt Earp, his brothers Virgil and Morgan Earp, not to mention his pal Doc Holliday.
